Turn on the speakers, let happiness flow

4 Jun

It’s the perfect day for some happy-go-lucky bubblegum electro. It’s time for two feel-good tracks with that Friday vibe written all across. Beware, these tunes are coated with an extra dose of glazing… Give into temptation; we all need some sugar every now and then:

Piña Colada Boy -by Swedish Dance trio Baby Alice- reminds me of Barbie Girl by Aqua infused with some Latin flavor à la Isla Bonita. I’m talking about a massive everyone-to-the-dance floor tune. Piña Colada Boy was written in 2008 and finally remixed and released this month.

RedOne has been putting together Love Generation, a Swedish girl group that will serve as a vehicle for some of his songs. Their first single -which holds the same name as the band- is pretty different to other RedOne productions. The result is an ultra catchy and joyful song that explores a new sonic territory for the Moroccan/Swedish DJ. I have a hunch that the group won’t see the light of day but the track will surely make a great addition for your iPod.

“Get Sexy” by Sugababes

13 Aug

“Get Sexy” was carefully crafted to penetrate the American market. The track shamelessly mirrors Lady Gaga’s biggest hits and Black Eyed Peas’ record-breaking “Boom Boom Pow”. As if those references weren’t enough to make of this song a massive hit, the British trio included a witty bridge prone to flood Facebook statuses all around the world: “if I had a dime for every single time these boys stop and stare, I’d be a billionaire”.

Some say that Sugababes lost their sonic identity the moment they lined up with RedOne for their newest single “Get Sexy”. Others think they actually found a better direction than the one taken for 2008’s “Catfights and Spotlights” –widely considered a flop-. Opinions aside, the song is definitely a major turn in their career.

Make your own judgement: get sexy right now.
