Friday, I’m in love

3 Sep

Quoting Usher, “thank God the week is done, I feel like a zombie gone back to life“. This means I’m in the mood for sharing some love on this beautiful Friday afternoon and this clearly involves bringing some musical goodies for all. Here’s some Fefe Dobson, Sky Ferreira, Shakira, Shontelle, Iyaz among others for your enjoyment.

Fefe Dobson – Stuttering: This has “guilty pleasure” written all over. You’ll know what I mean as soon as you listen to the chorus. I’m sure you’ll also feel kinda ashamed of singing along the lyrics “Oh oh oh oh oh / Ey ey ey ey ey / Oh oh oh oh woah / Yeah, you’re stuttering“… Anyways, this is an amazing song. It’s some feel-good pop. Maybe you’ll also notice how the “Hurry up, hurry up” part is identical to Clarkson’s Behind These Hazel eyes‘ “Here I am / Once again” verse…

Shontelle – Perfect Nightmare: I’d place this song next to the definition of “Power Ballad” on my own musical dictionary. The chorus isn’t very elaborate either but who cares, it’s pretty damn good and truly empowering.

Sky Ferreira – One (WAWA Remix): Get into your car, blast this song up, eat some cotton candy and you’ll feel as if you’re walking on sunshine. Yes, it’s that good.

Katy Perry – E.T. (Futuristic Lover): Well, this tune has got to be one 2010′s sexiest. The beat is sick and the lyrics are orgasmic. Did anyone say “double entendres”?

Katy Perry – Firework: Perry’s Teenage Dream is an amazing album. It’s full of upbeat and cheerful songs but this one truly stands out. Not only the lyrics are very optimistic but the actual melodic build-up can turn on even the most frigid person out there. It’s pure bliss.

Shakira – Loca (feat. El Cata): It’s Shakira. Period. This is her first single from her upcoming album due out early October, entitled Sale el sol. I’m not loving it but I guess it’ll grow on me.

Iyaz – So Big (Liam Keegan Radio Edit): Do you remember Replay? Well, this single’s even better. Party it up, so big.

Enjoy yourselves.

Summer 2010′s hottest songs

8 Aug

Summer brings out the best of music. This year’s hasn’t been the exception. Here’s a set of the season’s hottest tunes.

I Like It – Enrique Iglesias ft. Pitbull: If this year’s summer can be represented by just one song, it’d be this one. It’s so full of palpable energy; it just oozes that Iglesias is definitely in the best moment of his career. No wonder this is his first Billboard Top 10 hit since Hero. Oh well, who can’t sing along to Lionel Ritchie’s All Night Long, anyways?

Push Push (Dark Intensity Remix) – Kat DeLuna ft. Akon: She really took it to the limit. This song is intense. There’s no stopping with it… Akon is just the cherry atop an already luscious cake.

California Gurls (Dark Intensity Trance Remix) – Katy Perry

DJ Got Us Falling in Love (Jump Smokers Radio Edit) – Usher ft. Pitbull: It seems this is Pitbull’s year. He truly made it on 2009 with Calle Ocho and he doesn’t seem to be slowing down. He’s all over and across mainstream radio as a featuree.

Cooler Than Me – Mike Posner: The background beat of this tune is simply off the hook. Though not a fan of the lyrics, the melody definitely makes it up. I can’t wait to get my hands on some good remixes.

Love the Way You Lie (Temabes Remix) – Eminen ft. Rihanna: I can’t stand Eminem. I think rap only builds anger and I tend to support constructive energies. I love Rihanna’s part, though and then I found this remix, which suppresses Eminem… Isn’t life amazing?

Waka Waka (Freemasons Remix) – Shakira ft. Freshlyground: This is the ultimate adaptation of the song. If you need to keep just one version of World Cup 10′s anthem, make it this one your top choose.

Hang with Me (Starsmith Remix) – Robyn: It’s even better than Dancing on My Own. You can actually visualize her ripping her heart apart in a dancefloor. It’s amazing, specially with the Starsmith treatment which outperforms Avicii’s.

OMG (Almighty Club Mix) – Usher ft. Will.I.Am

The Boy Who Murdered Love (Glam as You Club Mix) – Diana Vickers: You’re an angel, I was told / Then you put the arrow in my back and I’m / Shot, shot, shot, shot, shot like a bullet / Stop, stop, stop, stop, stop, oh you love it”. The song speaks for itself.

All for You – Ace of Base: Yes, they’re back. It’s not the original line-up (both vocalists were replaced) but that fresh sound that flooded the 90s with infectious tunes still remains. I’ve been hunting the HQ version but it’s still too early. I’ll update the post as soon as I get my hands on it.

Dirty Dancer – Enrique Iglesias ft. Usher: This’ll be Euphoria’s second single. It has ‘floor filler’ written all over –not in an A*Teens-y sort of way-.

All Time Low – The Wanted: This song reminds me of Jordin Sparks’ Battlefield. They’re not similar at all but, somehow, both evoke a feeling that can only be described as epic. Surely, All Time Low falls short but it’s still quite a good song to pump on your radio as you drive the open road.

Amazing (Buzz Junkies Remix) – Inna: At first, I couldn’t stand this track. It’d get on my nerves. Somehow, it’s definitely a grower. The beat is sick; Buzz Junkies can’t do no wrong.

Wonderful Life (Freemasons Radio Edit) – The Hurts: You might remember Better Than Love. Well this song is that good. It’s less of a tears-on-the-dance-floor track, but it’s definitely quite, quite incredible.

If you want to download the whole thing, here’s the zip.

One love.

Daisy Dukes, bikinis on top

17 May

Katy Perry is back on the scene with California Gurls (feat. Snoop Dog). This track has ‘summer hit’ written all over. We’re about the face the power of a song that’ll take over the sunny season as Waking Up in Vegas did one year ago. The song was produced by Dr. Luke (I Kissed a Girl and Hot ‘n Cold) and Max Martin (That’s the Way it Is, Break You and Since U Been Gone).

Take a sunbath.
