“She Wolf” by Shakira

Shakira - She Wolf

Shakira is the only singer that can howl and pant in a song and get away with it. Anyone else who attempts to do something similar would be the object of mockery for at least a year. If it’s Shakira, rules say it’s perfectly acceptable. Depictions of lycanthropy in a track are not only allowed when it comes to her, but also necessary to maximize the potential of a brilliant song such as “She Wolf”.

The video does nothing but increase the track’s magnificence. (By the way, for those who are wondering, her contact lenses are meant to look fake: she isn’t trying to be a blue-eyed girl, she’s supposed to look like a she wolf –yes, wolves’ eyes are not like your sister’s-). While some may critique Jake Nava’s production, others only see a video that pushes the envelope: from the gorilla-like choreography to the sultry cage dance, it’s pure innovation.

Actually, originality is maybe one of the Colombian songwriter’s trademarks. She has the amazing ability of reinventing her music without losing her signature style… Take 2006’s ubiquitous “Hips don’t lie” and compare it with “She Wolf” and you find two diametrically opposed songs that can only belong to the same artist. Shakira is the kind of musician that can flirt with any musical genre, own it and look like she didn’t even had a hard time trying.

Find out why Shakira can lead any wolf pack. Aooooh!
